The big screen TV allowed everyone to follow along with the book with clear U-Tube visibility.

Again, We Read for the Record -  "Maybe Something Beautiful" by F. Isabel Campoy & Theresa Howell, Illustrated by Rafael Lopez - PDK Members and associates were encouraged to find places to read between Thursday October 11, 2018 thru Thursday October 25, 2018.  This is our chapter's 12th year for being involved in this project to encourage reading.  Photos have been posted to our PDK-Toledo “FACEBOOK” site. Phi Delta Kappa              Art Museum Visit           November 8, 2018

Rebecca Louise Law: Community

British artist Rebecca Louise Law has designed and created a site-specific installation using both dried and fresh plant materials to form an immersive visitor experience that explores the relationship between humanity and nature. The artist sourced thousands of plants and flowers native to the region for the project, which required 1,650 volunteer hours of assistance from community members, thematically and literally representing northwest Ohio.

Rebecca Louise Law: Community is a site-specific installation using both dried and fresh plant materials.

The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach           October 2016

Toledo PDK Chapter 1037 - “Read for the Record “ - This is our tenth year of participation in this national event.

Look at the FACEBOOK page for Toledo PDK chapter for photos from this year’s reading events.

Jumpstart's Read for the Record® is a national campaign that was launched over a decade ago to address the educational inequities that leave too many children unprepared for kindergarten. On Thursday, October 27, 2016, children and adults will gather to learn, laugh, and read this year's campaign book, The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach, as part of the world's largest shared reading experience. Read for the Record inspires adults to read with children, spurs policymakers and organizations to take action towards transformative change in early education, and puts books in the hands of more children across the country.

The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach

Mary Hutson, Washington Local Schools librarian at Hiawatha Elementary and McGregor Elementary, read to 238 students!  According to Jo Salvage

Gerry Lonsway read to 38 seniors at the Oregon Senior Center. This is the first time in four years that a dog was not among the readers group. It may have been embarrassed that the story seemed to be embellished by the dog.

Jodi Tucker reports that 31 of our Whitmer teaching professions students had the opportunity to read to elementary classes throughout our district with a total of 651 students

Teresa Nissen reported: Thought I would share a few pictures of Teaching Professions students from Anthony Wayne and Perrysburg, participating in Read for the Record today. (Check the Toledo PDK Facebook for photos) All Eight Teaching Professions students read the story "The Bear Ate Your Sandwich" and presented a self-created lesson plan to Lucas County Educational Service Center preschool students at Waterville Primary and Dorr Elementary. They read to a total of 139 preschoolers today.

Lois Whiteman reported that Jeff Bell read “The Bear Ate Your Sandwich” to six classes of K - 2nd graders at Old Orchard today - 127 pupils. I took a picture of him at home with the book and will post it to the Jumpstart Facebook Page.

Lois Whiteman also included 699 for Bedford elementary schools

Paulette Baz and the elementary librarian read to 505 students K-4 at Crestwood and Park Elementary schools in the Swanton school system.

Joe Salvage reported that Brenda Crosson, Librarian at Monac Elementary read to grades K-3, total of 287 students.

2016 report for the Toledo PDK Chapter:  45 readers - at least 12 locations - read to at least 2684

After the bear ate the sandwich..all that was left was the lettuce...

Jumpstart united over 2.35 million children and adults in the world’s largest shared reading experience, Read for the Record®. On October 27, we gathered in small towns, cities, and rural communities – in all 50 states – to learn, laugh, and read The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach.

2,352,648 was the final national number

Read for the Record -  October 2015 ---Not Norman; a goldfish story by Kelly Bennett

Gerry Lonsway read "Not Norman" to 46 seniors (and again, one dog) at the Oregon Senior Center.    Instead of an actual book this year, Gerry used the "big screen TV" and turned the volumn down on the "authors reading" of the book on the "You-Tube" site.  All could see the illustrations and appreciated hearing the story.  This is the tenth year that Toledo PDK has participated in the Read for the Record program. Our total number of those being read to reached nearly a thousand this year.

Teresa Nissen's, Teaching Professions students at Penta-Anthony Wayne and Penta-Perrysburg participated in "Read for the Record" this year. As a whole they read "Not Norman" to 130 preschoolers, teachers, TP students at Dorr Elementary Preschool classes. The students read the story and created a learning activity that went along with the story.

Lois Whiteman reported that 237 Bedford Elementary students were involved in Read for the Record.

Jodie Tucker didn't get a picture but she reported that the Whitmer High School Teaching Professions seniors read "Not Norman" to 185 elementary students in their classrooms (McGregor Elementary, Wernert Elementary and Meadowvale Elementary)!

Jane Myers read "Not Norman" to 100 kiddos at Defiance Elementary School on October 22.

Paulette Paz read "Not Norman" to 296 students at Park Elementary as a part of Toledo PDK's effort in Read for the Record.
